Wow! These last few months have just been surreal!
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t long for a return to the way things were (except those who have decided that sleeping, exercising, cooking, and reading shouldn’t be considered luxuries). However, there are several reasons to guard against such thoughts:
- Impatience at this point could be deadly. You can’t conquer viruses with wishful thinking. Seek facts, hope for the best, but think carefully about how the risks you are taking could affect you and many others.
- Some things will never return to the way they were. Reconcile yourself to this possibility now and you might be pleasantly surprised.
- If you only look backwards with nostalgia, you won’t see the opportunities that always lie ahead.
- It might be a long time yet before we return to something that feels like our old lives. Better to find joy in the present than to long for the past.
Please take care of yourself and your loved ones. If you are in charge, take care of your employees too. And don’t forget for a single second that you are making life and death decisions right now. Your profits and amusement are secondary.
