It is the 21st century. If you don’t have a website, you are missing the boat!
When I want to meet a friend for coffee in a mutually convenient location, I google coffee shops so I can easily pass on a name, address and directions. Coffee shops without websites lose.
My last dry cleaning experience was a huge disappointment so I googled a recommendation from a friend. No website? I may end up at the wrong place despite my efforts to find the one recommended.
After last year’s fiasco with the garden shops of big chains delivering plant diseases to our region, I am more determined than ever to buy from local growers. Trouble is, many don’t have websites. I can’t easily get phone numbers or learn their hours, locations, and offerings. In the meantime, I spy bright yellow pansies at a big retailer and the one small grower I pass has nothing out yet. It would be pretty easy to conclude that the small growers just aren’t ready to sell plants yet and be lured by the bright visible display.
If I want to find a carpenter, a house cleaner, purple paper plates, you name it, I use the Internet. If you aren’t there, I can’t find you. If your business doesn’t pop up with at least minimal information about who you are, how I can reach you, and what you offer, I am much less likely to find you.
If you don’t have a website, wake up and get going! It does not have to take a lot of time or money to create a simple website. The more you want from your website, the more you will have to invest. But take it one step at a time and find someone who can tell you how to get a simple site up today.
