The death of John McCain this week has resulted in a flood of generous tributes, as it should. One recurring theme is his commitment to his country. Regardless of whether they agreed with John McCain’s positions or not, most people are praising him for putting the good of the country ahead of his personal interests. They speak of him as a dying breed. The end of an era.
This is what disturbs me. Isn’t putting country ahead of personal interests what all elected officials are supposed to do? Aren’t they elected to serve their country?
When soldiers sign up to serve their country, the consequence of failing to put country first is court-martial.
When our elected officials fail to put country first, most get re-elected.
Take a good hard look at your elected officials. Are they taking care of themselves, their cronies, and big business? Or are they trying to take care of all Americans? This isn’t a party issue. There are selfish, greedy, close-minded politicians on both sides of the aisle. We need elected officials who are determined to serve the whole country and collaborate to find solutions that will make life better for everyone. Don’t just accept that John McCain is the end of an era.
Get out and vote for candidates determined to serve all of us.
Thanks,
Ann
